Study on Emptiness

“I am in a Small Cabin in the Middle of the Woods”

This solo was made to highlight and better understand the methods of survival that I developed through my relocating to New York City from Nashville during the Covid-19 pandemic. These two contrasting cities hold so much significance to my development as a human and an artist. Green trees, concrete towers. Chosen family, blood relatives. Isolation, integration. I was curious to shine light on this transition. I worked to recycle the tension I held between these two places, emotionally and geographically, into modes of improvisation. With this recycling came a reimagining of context, to hold onto the spacious simplicity of living immersed in nature while residing in a concrete jungle. Inspired by the title mantra I created to help cope with city living, this solo explores sustainability through imagination.
