The residency and installation were produced in collaboration with Vanderbilt’s Black Mountain College Symposium.
"Attempted Solo" is a dance performance that explores themes of personal instability and the tendency to seek temporary solutions to deeper issues. Conceived through discussions with collaborators Kay Kennedy and Matt Kinney, the piece utilizes wooden planks as a central structural element to symbolize these themes.
The work abstracts the format of an interview, where I engage in physical tasks related to the planks while being observed and assessed by Kennedy, who takes on the role of the interviewer. This interaction highlights vulnerability and self-exploration through both physical and narrative dimensions.
The performance challenges my comfort zone, emphasizing the urgency of addressing personal instability. The intimate relationship with the wooden planks fosters a profound connection and empathy, illustrating the emotional and physical complexities of my journey.
